TUTORIAL: Disney Girls by oceanstarlet TUTORIAL: Disney Girls by oceanstarlet
EDIT: "Sugar cookie" is definitely not an official Disney's my name for all the European Disney princesses. Like sugar cookies: sparkly, white, sometimes too sweet for their own good

EDIT #2: I'm not ripping on Disney! I LOVE and TOTALLY COMPLETELY ADMIRE Disney and their artists! I think I was trying to be funny, except everything I noticed about Disney's stylization came across as caustic.

Lol you should do one of these on Japanese style animation. Their is literally no diversity when it comes to race, excepting skin, hair, and eye color
DragonKnightShaun Featured By Owner Aug 14, 2015
something you may have looked passed is that when drawing the people, they rarely used black outlines, they usually used a color darker then the objects color.

The problem with using Meg, Jasmine, and Nonni is that they are stylized beyond the normal "Disney" formula.   The same with Mulan and Aurora... or really any Classic Disney, which is (short of Aurora) closer to actual proportions.   The Disney Renaissance art would have been more cohesive an example.

Well this was exactly what I was looking for! :D

How do you draw a Disney boy (I.e. a prince) though?
msteetertotter Featured By Owner Sep 4, 2014  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
Probably as such, more muscle than usual or if a scrawny characters just do thin arms and a 6-pack (Aladdin), boys don't usually have a big role so not very unique and separated features, broad-ish nose, medium eyes etc. :)
Compare pictures. I'm also no expert so you can get an official tutorial too :)

Okay, could you make a tutorial so I have quick reference guide? When it's finished reply and give me the link please.

Awesome! I've been looking for a good Disney style tutorial. I think I might mess with it, give it a bit more realism, but otherwise this helped tons! Thanks!

I love it!  Though, what would you suggest for a more curvy woman?  One that has a little tummy and wide hips?
Kukiko-tan Featured By Owner Jul 2, 2014
Interesting tutorial. However, I am a bit troubled by the lack of difference between romani and gypsies. Please do not confuse them, they are two different ethnic groups.
oceanstarlet Featured By Owner Jul 4, 2014  Hobbyist Digital Artist
man I wouldn't even use that slur nowadays, I've really got to consider taking this tutorial down or making significant modifications. thanks for reminding me
Kukiko-tan Featured By Owner Jul 4, 2014
eh ;; maybe I should have noticed the date you've uploaded as well. I saw it on some artists tool site and it was between the first posts so I thought it was recent. No problem 8'D

This is really cute! I like it it, and it's very informative, and I like how you pay attention to a variety of details.
The only thing I would say is not to refer to the non-white princesses as being 'exotic' and maybe censor the g-slur if not eliminate it.
Otherwise, this tutorial is a great look into the all-powerful Disney style and variety within it, good job!

very educational, indeed entertaining, but at the end of the day cartoons are a form of art. I personally love how they draw their characters.
